When I first stepped foot into this class, I expected a pretty normal English writing course, with lots of writing, assignments and no practical work. I thought it was going to be mainly just about getting my work done and submitting it on time. But rather it was learning the process of writing. The why and how. As soon as I started I thought I was decent at writing and quite confident in my self to get the topic across the the ready but definitely needed some work on the process. And then I realized that this class is going to push me with what I’m not the most confident in and help me develope each piece of writing in a way I haven’t before.
During project one I could see this and 2 SLOs were used. “Writing as a Process” and “Rhetorical Situation and Genre”. The first one definitely impacted me the most because it forced me to slow down and not rush my writing. It made me actually go back and revise all my work that I had wrote. During this u learnt that revision wasn’t just about fixing a mistake but it was like the cherry on top, where it puts the whole piece together weather it was the structure or just the writing as a whole. Improving in all of these areas really meant I would be improving in my writing as a whole.
The second SLO, “Rhetorical Situation and Genre”, pushed me to think about how my writing would be read from a readers perspective. I made extra sure the story I was trying convey made sense 100% of the time, and that every part could lead back to the main conflict or purpose of the story. I used to write stories and really steer away from the main topic but with this SLO I did otherwise. It forced me to ask myself who is reading? Why it matters? And what I want them to understand. This changed my project completely. And I used my reflection skills to help polish this off. I connected both parts of the writing into one. To make sure each choice I made was the write one and to help me grow my writing in the future.
Project 2 had different challenges to the first one. This time it was focused on the “Communication” and “Research Intergration”. Building a discourse community website helped me communicate everything I knew about track and field so that anyone would understand it. I had to organize different topics under 5 different pages in the website in a way which made it easy to navigate. This project taught me communication isn’t just putting down everything you know on a page but rather putting it down in a way everyone else will understand it as if you are explaining it to them step by step. I also learnt to use my research more intently, using sources from the web as well as the UNM library. All of those sources and research I obtained helped support all the knowledge I already knew about track and field. This can be seen at the bottom of each page where there would be a link to further research done on that page, for example the training page where it takes you to a page for specific work outs depending on your event.
As the class came to an end I realized that I have grown way more than what I thought I would, as a communicator and writer as a whole. I learnt how to manage time, revise my work, take into account my audience, and use my research sources. These skills will help me not only in the future classes but actually will help me in day to day communication and conversations.
The two SLO’s I engaged in were (1) Writing as a Process and then (2) Rhetorical Situation and Genre. (1) This SLO stood out the most, and it was probably because I learned from my weakness, which was the planning and time management. I did this by revising all of my work over and over again to make it stronger each time. (2) The second SLO which can be seen was when I thought about my audience I wanted to make sure that the story made sense 100% of the time and it actually fit into the purpose and the conflict I was facing. Another one to just add on was Reflection which was used in the last paragraph which relates not only what I learned from that experience, but it links it to how I can use it in all that other aspects of life.
SLO 1: COMMUNICATION
By making this website I have communicated almost all of the information I know about track and field through out these 5 pages. I have organized in a way which is easy for a beginner to understand and start track and field themselves.
SLO 2: RESEARCH INTERGRATION
I used a handful of research sources from the UNM library to Reddit posts. All of these sources support the claims I have used in my project 2 assignment, such on the trining page I have included a link which will show the viewer a way more in depth training schedule.
GRAMMAR & USAGE
I used grammar thought out both my projects and with the use of correct grammar comes fluency. A variety of different length and style of entrances and paragraphs were used.
describe the social nature of composing, particularly the roleof discourse communities at the local, national, andinternational level

Through out the entire semester we had to get each of our SWA’s and projects peer reviewed by a class mate. This was done by a set of questions which Dr. Wilson had given to us to where we then had to go into the discussion post and reply with who we were going to peer review as well as answering the questions to make sure that person had lol of the needed requirements. I had a few suggestions from my peer review one of them bing that I should separate my home page in my discourse community into separate pages, such an intro, value and terminology page etc.
Another suggestion was that I should separate some of my writing with photos to make it easier for the reader to stay focused and get a visualization of what I am trying I convey over to the reader.
