PROJECT 2 | Discourse community

Track and Field

Introduction

my journey into track & field

I’ve been a part of the track and field this discourse community for as long as what I can remember. I’m from South Africa and fell in love with sports in general, but track and field really caught my attention because of the mix of power, precision as well as focus needed.

Highjump was my favorite. The passion that I gained over that time led me to compete throughout my school career competing internationally for under 18 and under 20, and then eventually competing for college, which I’m busy with right now. All of the started because of all the dedicated athletes I have looked up to, and like me have the passion and drive to be the best. Track and field isn’t just a hobby for me, but it’s the lifestyle I want to live, and a career I want to build for the future.

Why its important to me

This discourse community is very important to me as it adds an extra pressure to my life that pushes me to grow further every day. I get a lot of joy from training and competing, but with this both discipline and responsibility is built. I love the feeling when the voice inside my head disappears every time I am busy jumping or running. Every practice that I go to will challenge me to become stronger and more consistent and every competition that I attend shows the hard work that I put in through those training days. Beyond just the fitness, health and confidence that is built. The sport connects me with people who think the same as me and share the same drive.

The track & field community

To outsiders, track and field might look like a individual sport, but in actual fact, there is a huge community built around it. Supporters, athletes and even their coaches, all motivate each other and celebrate the victories that the athletes achieve. All of them also help each other improve in different aspects whether it’s a physical aspect, or even discipline.

Our community comes together through group practices, competitions, and even fundraisers to help promote the sportsmanship that are sport entails. At the end of the day I think we’re more than just running and jumping, but rather as striving for excellence as a community.

Reflection

my journey into track & field

Track and field has played the most important role in shaping me to who I am today. And it is only an honor to be apart of this community. It has taught me so many things from discipline to how to handle tough situations. I have also learnt how the whole environment can be so supportive as well as motivating.

All teammates help each other out with everything, like mental struggles or even an injury. This community matters to me because it has helped me grow as a person and improved my confidence in life dramatically. I will never forget all the lesson track and taught me and can’t wait to share it with like minded people.

Slo 1: reflection

By making this website and during the whole of project 2, I have managed to reflect on how my choices had strengthened my communication ability. I managed to elevate my writing skills with the use of organized information. These skills of writing will definitely be applied in future projects.

Slo 2: research

I used a handful of research sources from the UNM library to Reddit posts. All of these sources support the claims I have used in my project 2 assignment, such on the trining page I have included a link which will show the viewer a way more in depth training schedule.
